To enhance your experience and understanding when using our platform, it is essential to know the different categories of shots in football. Here, we clarify these differences for you:
What are Shots?
Shots include all attempts to score a goal, encompassing shots on target, shots off target, and blocked shots.
What are Shots on Target?
Shots on Target are attempts to score that:
- Result in a goal, regardless of the player's intention.
- Would have resulted in a goal if not defended by the goalkeeper or prevented by the last defender (goal line clearance).
- Hit the post and enter the goal, being validated as a goal.
- Are not blocked by a player other than the last defender.
What are Shots Off Target?
Shots Off Target are attempts to score that:
- Go over or wide of the goal without touching any player.
- Would have gone over or wide of the goal if not defended by the goalkeeper or a field player.
- Hit the post and do not result in a goal.
- Are not considered defended shots.
What are Blocked Shots?
Blocked Shots are attempts to score where:
- The ball is heading towards the goal and is blocked by a field player, with other defenders or the goalkeeper still behind.
- Are involuntarily blocked by a teammate of the player who shot.
- Blocks made by the last defender (goal line clearance) are counted as shots on target and not as defended shots.
- Include direct free kicks on goal or shots that are blocked by the wall or another player.
- Are goal attempts created directly from the free kick, without the assistance of other players.
